§ 2. FIRE MARSHAL

    OFFICE OF FIRE MARSHAL CREATED

    The office of the Fire Marshal is hereby created.

    B.

    QUALIFICATIONS & COMPENSATION OF FIRE MARSHAL

    The office of the Fire Marshal shall be independent of other city departments. The Fire Marshal shall be properly qualified for the unique duties of the office. City Council shall appoint the Fire Marshal; establish the annual salary for the position; and may discharge the Fire Marshal without cause at the discretion of City Council. (Ordinance No. 7-88 of May 12, 1988).

    C.

    DUTIES

    The Fire Marshal shall investigate the cause, origin, and circumstances of every fire occurring within the city limits by which property has been damaged or destroyed. The Fire Marshal shall make investigation as to whether such fire was the result of carelessness or by design. The Fire Marshal shall "quarterly" review the records of the Santa Fe, Fire & Rescue of all fires, together with all facts, statistics and circumstances including the origin of the fires and the amount of loss.

    D.

    ASSISTANT FIRE MARSHAL

    The Fire Marshal shall nominate and appoint persons for the position of Assistant Fire Marshal subject to approval of City Council. The Assistant Fire Marshal(s) shall perform such duties as delegated by the Fire Marshal, and the Assistant Fire Marshal(s) may have powers of a police officer in performing his duties. The salary, if any, of the Assistant Fire Marshal(s) shall be established by the City Council.
